Lost and Found

As shown in the Baca Railyard District 2018.

In “Lost and Found”, I physically deconstruct, fragment, and contort the structural I-beam so that it is not readily recognizable. Experientially, as a viewer moves around the sculptural pieces, they are presented with conflicting perspectives, either in massing or vistas. This is to dislodge and displace the viewers’ default frame of reference. By further introducing a vibrant nonorganic color plane against the physicality of the thick old rusted steel, the sculpture becomes an emotive presence, presenting to the viewer a dichotomy of the old stiff heaviness of steel with a new ephemeral quality of playfulness.
